Syrian Refugee

The Goan Cultural Group (GCG) in association with the West End Seniors has undertaken an initiative to sponsor one Syrian Refugee family (not exceeding five members) to Canada.

This undertaking entails proper housing, clothing, food and appropriate cultural interaction.

The care for this family will be for one year from the time we assume responsibility for the family. We will be requesting that an appropriate time for us to accept our Syrian family will be about mid-May 2016.

The funds required to ensure this project is successful will be approx. $25,000.

Even though the GCG has initiated this action, the project is a GOAN INITIATIVE.

We, therefore ask all Goans to think back to the time when some amongst us were refugees ourselves and were warmly welcomed to Canada. Pierre Elliott Trudeau was the Prime Minister at that time. His son now occupies that office.

We have started our fund raising campaign. We suggest that each person consider donating a minimum of $20 to this campaign. You may do so by cheque made out to: Goan Syrian Project.

(We ask that you do not donate cash as we will incur bank charges when we deposit the money)
